G.I.P. Laboratory builds horn loudspeaker systems based on classic theater technology from the Western Electric company of the 1930s. The original Western Electric drivers from this period are considered by many as the greatest ever made and still state-of-the-art. However, because of wear from being almost a century old, nearly all of the original examples no longer perform as new, making it almost impossible to find a properly balanced matching pair. Enter G.I.P. Laboratory and founder Shinichi Suzuki’s vision.
G.I.P. manufactures complete horn loudspeaker systems, many with their own Western Electric replica field-coil compression drivers and woofers. They are nearly identical to the original Western Electric units, no easy task when considering the extremely difficult engineering and metallurgy. The result, dynamic realism, musicality, and scale that will astonish even the most sophisticated listener. For optimum synergy, G.I.P. Laboratory also builds a range of vacuum tube amplifiers and preamplifiers.

G.I.P. 9700A
The 9700A is G.I.P.’s flagship loudspeaker system. Utilizing the G.I.P. 9000 series field coil tweeter, compression driver, and woofers, the 9700 is a modern take on vintage Western Electric theater sound systems. This system uses 2 18” field coil woofers per side and a large midrange horn made of beautiful Japanese Cherry Blossom wood. Tailor the sound with adjustable mid and treble attenuation.
G.I.P. 6L6 Mono Amplifiers
The 6L6 mono amplifiers offer 25 watts per channel and world class sound. Match them with a G.I.P. sound system and achieve perfect synergy.
G.I.P. 594A
The 594A was used in large theater applications. Using the same cobalt/iron alloy as the originals, this replica unit is considered one of the many sonic masterpieces Western Electric created during audio’s “Golden Age”. It took G.I.P. founder Shinichi Suzuki more than 10 years to engineer. Every internal part is painstakingly faithful to the original, and some aspects actually improved upon. A testiment to Suzuki Sans determination.
G.I.P. 597A
The field coil 597A is considered the first production tweeter ever made. Many consider it a masterpiece of engineering and possible the greatest tweeter ever made. Not a bad way to start things off.
G.I.P. 4181A
The 4181A field coil woofer inspires awe to those who see it for the first time. The original Western Electric 4181a was used in the Mirrophonic system for movie palaces.
G.I.P. 506
The 506 is a large 3-way speaker system that uses the G.I.P. 597A tweeter, 5016 mid compression driver, and 18” 4181A woofer. This will give the listener the same large scale presentation found in early Western Electric theater systems. It offers incredible dynamics with buttery highs, present mids, and tuneful extended bass. Fully adjustable mid and treble attenuation.
G.I.P. Preamplifier
The G.I.P. preamplifier uses only the finest parts, some of them vintage. It’s very flexible with 2 phono inputs. Achieve absolute naturalism with this state-of-the-art device.
G.I.P. 9101
The 9700A is G.I.P.’s most substantial driver, It borrows from the knowledge learned in replicating the original Western Electric drivers. A true state-of-the-art unit.
G.I.P. 9501
The 9501 takes the technology found in the 597A to a new level. The horn is custructed of solid brass. Possibly the greatest tweeter in the world today.
G.I.P. 4165
In 1933, the original Western Electric 4165 theater loudspeakers were spec’d into small theaters that sat about 200 people. They use the full range replica G.I.P. 4165 woofer and a choice of any of G.I.P.’s tweeters. The open baffle is quite modern looking with its sculpted angles. It offers a huge sonic picture and can be placed in mid to large sized rooms. It comes with adjustable treble attenuation.
G.I.P. 7396
The 7396 “mirrophonic” system is what Western Electric installed in large movie palaces in the mid 1930s. This uses the 597A field coil tweeter, 594A field coil mid compression driver, and two 18” 4181A field coil woofers per cabinet. For large rooms.
G.I.P. 555
The 555 is the most well known Western Electric Compression driver because of how many were originally produced. However, because of age, the originals rarely measure well and are almost impossible to use in a stereo pair. G.I.P. solved that problem with this faithful reproduction that uses almost pure iron in the case work, just like the originals.
